Mummy Hot Dogs

Delicious halloween dinner-mummy hot dogs

Looking for an easy, simple Halloween meal that your kids will love to make? Then you need to try these awesome Mummy Hot Dogs!

I love having traditions with my kiddos that we can all look forward to, even if they are as simple as a certain food we eat for the holidays. Traditions are fun and a MUST for me! These Mummy Hot Dogs are a sure win at my house.
A few years ago we started the tradition of making mummy hot dogs for Halloween night just before we go out trick or treating! They are so much fun to make and easy enough for the kids to make their own (which they love). We serve it with a side of chili (pumpkin chili, this year) and it is a full meal. I love this tradition because they are fun and delicious for the kiddos (what kid doesn’t love hot dogs) and easy and quick for the parents. They make really no mess and are ready in about 15 minutes! Win, Win for everyone.
Try these Mummy Hot Dogs for your new tradition, your kids will be happy you did!

DIY Kitchen Chairs Makeover

diykitchenchairmakeover

Okay so this is my FIRST DIY project post and I am so excited! I love taking something not so fab and making it FABULOUS (well actually I get the idea and my AMAZING husband does the work, haha, thanks hun)!! OR I love finding new ideas and having again my AMAZING husband build me something for a 1/4 of the cost! It is so much fun to get new things and not break the bank! Don’t you all agree?
So, this project all started when we found a beautiful kitchen table on clearance at one of my FAVORITE shops in town Passport Furnishings! We had to get it but the bench and chairs were not on clearance or even on sale, so we decided, my husband for sure could make a bench that would be just what we needed! The chairs were a little more challenging, so I thought HEY! Let’s look at yard sales and see what we could find.
Well, it was our lucky week because we found 4 ugly (but great structure) chairs for cheap! I even talked the guy down to ONLY $40 for all 4 chairs. AWESOME!!
So, now we had the beautiful kitchen table, 4 ugly chairs, and an idea for the bench. We were on the right track but NOW needed an idea on how to redo the awful chairs.
I decided I wanted grey and blue, so we started at the fabric store, JoAnn’s, found some 50% off fabric in the color I wanted and was again saving money! LOVE IT!!
Then off to the hardware store to get some grey spray paint. We decided on light grey and was NOW ready to begin the chairs. So EXCITED!!

DIY Kitchen Chairs Makeover

kitchenchairsmakeover

Okay so these chairs were a simple and very cheap Makeover!

So if you are interested in MAKING over your own chairs here is some simple and easy step to take!
  • First, clean the wood on the chairs with some soap and water then dried them well!!
  • Then flipped over the chair and unscrewed the cushion bottom off the chair frame!
  • After that take the staples off the cushion (which I think was the biggest and most time-consuming part of the whole project).
  • Take the old fabric off the cushion and put new fabric on, you might need to replace the padding on the cushions (luckily we didn’t need to do that)! Staple the new fabric on the cushion, make sure to pull your fabric tight, so you don’t have bunching!
  • Once the cushion seat is done, set aside and take the chair frames outside, or where ever you want to paint them. If you want you can rough them up with sandpaper (my husband said he didn’t do that and it worked just fine)
  • Spray paint your chairs whatever your desired color is and let dry (really good) and then spray them again. You may need a few coats depending on what color your chairs are and what color you are going for. Once you reach your desired color let dry overnight.
  • Now that they are REALLY dry- You can rough up the edges of the chairs to give them a little bit of a worn look, if you want. Then spray a Clear coat on them, we used a matte finish. Let them dry. Then spray them again- let dry again overnight!
  • Last, place the cushions back onto the chair frame, screw them back in and VIOLA you are DONE!!

I hope YOU enjoy your FABULOUS New Chairs as much as I enjoy mine!

Next, DIY post I will share the Kitchen bench my AMAZING husband build!!
